Absolute Monarchy

An Absolute Monarchy is a form of government with a King / Queen which rules unhindered by any law or constitutional body.

Anarchy

A condition in which the state, province, territory or region has absolutely no government.

Commonwealth

A Commonwealth is a system founded by the people for the common good. It can be a nation, state, territory or political entity.

Confederacy

An organization or pact amongst several states, provinces, territories or unions creating a central government with limited powers. All powers are retained by the regions except those invested in the central government.

Constitutional Democracy

A form of government where the power of the people is spelled out in a document known as a governing constitution.

Constitutional Monarchy

A Constitutional Monarchy is a form of government where a document is written governing the monarch's rights, duties, responsibilities and obligations.

Democracy

All power is retained by the people in a Democracy, but there is usually a political party meant for representation of the nation's citizens and there are periodic delegations of authority where a new group represents the nation's citizens.

Democratic Republic

The power is invested in the people but elections are often held for the people's representatives, and majority rules in elections. The representatives are responsible to the population that they represent.

Dictatorship

Only one leader or group representing an entire nation, obtaining power usually by means of force or popularity. They wield absolute power and there are no governing laws or constitutional documents restricting their powers.

Ecclesiastical Nation

A form of government where the church retains all powers.

Federation

In a Federation, sovereign power is divided in a formal manner by an agreement or means of a constitution. This power is divided amongst all states, provinces, regions or unions and the central government. Those in agreement with a Federation retain management of their internal affairs, but a Federation differs a bit from a Confederation because the central government may enforce it's influence directly upon the regions it's over.

Federal Republic

The powers of the central government are restricted and power rests within the voters to elect their representatives. A Federal Republic allows states, provinces, regions or unions to self govern themselves without much interference from the central government.

Monarchy

A form of government where power is invested in the King or Queen and usually for life and hereditary.

Oligarchy

An Oligarchy is a form of government where power is represented by wealth and / or power, usually by a group of individuals or aristocrats.

Republic

A Democracy with representatives elected by the people who vote on legislation.

Theocracy

A government where a god, goddess or gods are recognized as supreme rulers, and laws are interpreted by the church's authorities.

Totalitarian

A strict government form where the authorities control every aspect of civilian life including beliefs, attitudes and personal values. The government's representatives are also in charge of governing the economy and political matters. They subordinate the individuals until they see the government as right and never wrong.
